“Tunno does a terrific job of reflecting the real-life political situation that the US faces in dealing with global terrorism… The threat of jihad against the US is real and it makes the core of the plot more grounded. Intrepid Spirit is a thrilling action-adventure at sea that will appeal to anyone who has a taste for action thrillers.”

“In Intrepid Spirit by David Tunno, a terrorist group is bent on inflicting punishment on the infidels as they battle the crew of the USS Constitution. While political leaders are trying to ease the brewing tensions within the Middle Eastern region, the militant and extremist Islamists are trying to exacerbate it by declaring a jihad against the US Vice President.

The hero is Lieutenant Moses Redding, a combat officer who is given the task of a PR job by commanding the USS Constitution on a goodwill tour. The ship is considered a floating museum and a tourist attraction, and such a job is unfitting for a combat officer. This is the punishment he gets after performing a heroic deed that forced him to defy orders, and it didn’t stand well with his superiors. But the mettle of Redding and the oldest commissioned warship will be put to the test once more as Redding, the ship, and its crew are put into a situation where they are the only ones who can rescue the US Vice President.

Yes, you and I are probably thinking the same thing as it reminds me of films like Under Siege and Battleship. In fiction, the formula works better because David Tunno is the only creative head pulling the strings, and he knows in which direction to steer his plot. He writes with chutzpah as you can see by the way he gives the old battleship an overwhelming and convincing presence. Moreover, Tunno does a terrific job of reflecting the real-life political situation that the US faces in dealing with global terrorism. The protagonist is similarly effective. Although Redding is the story’s hero, he is not a one-man show that wipes out the enemies. He gets help because he cannot do it alone. The threat of jihad against the US is real and it makes the core of the plot more grounded. Intrepid Spirit is a thrilling action-adventure at sea that will appeal to anyone who has a taste for action thrillers.”
