Intrepid Spirit

Past and present cross swords in Intrepid Spirit, an action-adventure naval thriller that weaves history, romance, humor and the supernatural in a modern-day, swashbuckling, high-seas adventure with a literary quality uncommon to the genre.
Unjustly disciplined, a brazen Navy hero, Moses Redding, is given a humiliating PR job as captain of the 200-year-old USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”) on a Mediterranean goodwill tour. It’s purgatory for a man of action, but sets him on a course to redemption when he and his crew, with nothing but their floating museum and her antique weaponry, must save the day in an epic battle against Islamic terrorist bent on lighting the fuse on a world-wide jihad.
Ironically reminiscent of the ship’s 19th century maiden mission against the ancestors of today’s Islamic terrorists, the Barbary Coast pirates, Constitution emerges as a significant character in the story, eerily intervening in the transformation of Redding and, ultimately, the outcome of the battle itself. Along the way, the alpha-male Redding engages in a battle-of-the-sexes with Dr. Miriam Hanna, an alluring civilian shipmate and intellectual who can hold her own in a debate – or a fist fight.
Also available in an audiobook edition. Author David Tunno called on his theatrical training and experience to give the production more than a narration – a performance.

The Ship

USS Constitution
USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides, is a three-masted wooden-hulled heavy frigate of the United States Navy. Launched in 1797, she is the world’s oldest ship of any type still afloat. One of her first duties was to defeat the Barbary pirates in the First Barbary War, but she gained her fame in the War of 1812. In thirty-three actions, she was undefeated.
Join the Constitution in Intrepid Spirit as she returns to sea to spread good will around the Mediterranean. At over 200 years of age, Constitution is called to action once more. Will the young crew and the old ship succeed, or even survive?
